Volunteers at the Benica Yacht Club and the South Beach Yacht Club are working to bring sailors around the SF Bay a fun Jazz Cup event this year, happening on Saturday, September 5! The race starts at 11:00 AM in San Francisco Bay in the waters off Berkeley and runs 26-miles to the finish line off the 5th Street Pier in Benicia. Finish arrival times vary with wind conditions but will generally be between 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Last year 74-sail boats participated from 16 Clubs. It is one of the Bay Area’s late‑summer sailing traditions, jointly hosted by the South Beach Yacht Club and the Benicia Yacht Club. The race began as a friendly challenge between the two clubs and quickly grew into a signature sailing event. The event's name is from the Benicia Jazz Festival, where the earliest races finished. Sailors would arrive in the harbor just as the festival was getting underway, creating a lively celebration that blended music, community, and the spirit of competition. Even though the festival has since ended, the name—and the tradition—live on. Sponsors of this year's race are the Benicia Bruehol Brewing, the Benicia Marina, Rubicon Yachts, and all the volunteers from South Beach and Benicia Yacht Clubs.
